APR Approaches Chief Information Commissioner for Transparent Elections

As a part of election campaign in Delhi, a delegation from APR consisting of Convenor Dr. Bharat and Members Rajiv Kumar, Ravi Prakash & Nazma Khan met with Chief Information Commissioner, Mr. Wajahat Habibullah, on 6th November, 2008 and requested him to issues a circular to the Election Commission of India to make the photocopy of the affidavits submitted by the candidates available to the public, and to designate an officer of the Election Commission for the purpose. The team also requested him that the affidavits of candidates be made available on the website of the election commission on the day the nominations filed (the letter to the commission is attached with this email for your information).

Mr. Wajahat Habibullah had taken up this issue very seriously, he said that he would call a meeting with chief election Commissioner of India, discuss the matter and he would issue a circular to the Election Commission of India. He also said that he would do it much before the date of Delhi election. With the hope that this will help us in restoring true democracy, APR request all to kindly build up similar pressure for upcoming state and union elections.
